Milan Image Art and Design Fair (MIA&D Fair) kicks off its first international edition in Singapore

MIA&D Fair, the photography and design art fair, conceived in Milan in 2011 by Fabio Castelli, was created with the aim of highlighting the transverse role that photography has come to play between the languages of expression of the contemporary art system. In 2014 Milan Image Art Fair looks to Singapore for its international expansion and has announced its first edition in the new capital of art in the South Pacific from 23rd to 26th October 2014  during the 4th Singapore International Photography Festival.

The Fair is collocated at Marina Bay Sands, Exhibition Centre, where it occupies a sprawling 3,500 square meters. In Singapore the fair includes the presence 50% – 50% of Asian and Western exhibitors and it is expected to attract up to 25.000 visitors. The fair, which is held under the patronage of EXPO Milano 2015, the Embassy of Italy in Singapore and the Italian Institute of Culture, is a platform for new encounters and cultural exchanges on photography, video and design between Asian and Western countries.

In occasion of its first edition in Singapore, MIA Fair, has introduced a new Design section directly connected with photography that distinguishes the fair from other art fairs in Singapore. MIA&D Fair believes that Photography, Video and Design Art, are all expressions of a deep contemporary artistic research because, in the last twenty years,  photography and design have spoken a similar language.
Photography represents today not anymore just a decorative medium, but it is considered one of the highest expression of contemporary art, in the same way Design Art is considered an expression of creativity and functionality that attracts collectors.
Singapore is the right platform where to launch MIA&D Fair as the country shows a deep interest and curiosity in international events, related to culture and arts.

In addition, MIA&D Fair will offer its visitors wide-ranging cultural programmes including “Collecting Photography”, a talk to be conducted by Gwen Lee, curator and director of Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF). Other programmes include a discussion on the Mekong Platform by Loredana Pazzini Paracciani, a talk on the connection between photography and design by a panel of speakers including gallery owner and art director Claudia Pignatale and Singaporean designer Hunn Wai, as well as a workshop on legal issues concerning images and related rights, chaired by the intellectual property and art lawyer, avv. Cristina Manasse, who will be joined by Lam Chung Nian, partner at WongPartnership LLP, Singapore.

During the month of October, Singapore is the art hub of photography in Asia with MIA&D Fair and SIPF, providing visibility and international exposure for all the art players in photography and design.
