8 gennaio 2014 in Events

Installation upon installation, big enough for people to enter, is the first thing most would notice when first entering the main building of the National Gallery (Galeri Nasional) at the opening of the Biennale Desain dan Kriya Indonesia 2013.

The first Biennale Desain dan Kriya Indonesia 2013 had ‘GeoEtnik’ as its theme, and involved 93 artists and designers from eight different creative economic sectors. In result, the exhibition shows 66 pieces, 13 of them being collaborative works between the participants.
This program was created through the cooperation between the DIrector of Fine Arts Development, the Director-Jeneral of Creative Economy based on Arts and Culture, and the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry. The committee itself consists of six people and there are five curators for the whole exhibition.
Though there have been previous exhibitions that boast a similar concept—such as the EXPO Seni dan Desain ‘92—never has there been an event that not only showed a variety of art and design from local artists and designers, but an event that also encourages discourse and radical ideas on art and design. Furthermore, the designs shown at the exhibition focus more on developing creativity and innovation rather than creating for the market and mere self-promotion.

The exhibition will be held from Dec. 19, 2013 to January 19, 2014 at the National Gallery, Jakarta.
